Quaker Generationship  Workshop

delivered at Central Manchester Friend’s Meeting House, April 2026

When I sit in meeting for worship I often imagine we are in a spaceship.

A while ago I searched for ‘science fiction books with quakers in’ and ended up reading ‘Dazzle of Day by Molly Gloss’ – it’s not an amazing book but it has some beautiful parts to it. It’s about ‘a quaker community that leaves an inhospitable Earth on a generation ship to settle a new planet’. I was disappointed by the book and dream of writing my own but it planted a seed.

I ran an intergenerational ‘Design a quaker generationship’ workshop with North West Friends visiting Central Manchester Meeting House for a Quaker Fun Day.

The main outcome of the workshop was actually the discussion, although the physical objects and drawings are great.

I shared with people my feelings of quakerism being scifi and we discussed how it will morph and adapt with us as the world changes.

In the workshop we imagined a potential future where quakers may need to go into space and of course we had lots of discussion about why we shouldn’t go into space and how we need to focus on Earth’s issues first.

We spoke about how silence might be universally understood. And we designed peace mission spacecrafts. We also collaboratively made this giant generationship called ‘The Sense of the Meeting’

Pillow Life Drawing

lecture and workshop with students at Manchester College, February 2026

I led 4 workshops with Art and Design students at Manchester College. I studied this course myself 2016 – 2018 so it was really healing to visit and meet the students. It was part of Manchester Art Gallery’s Creative Futures programme where Manchester College students are set a brief and given an opportunity to exhibit in Manchester Art Gallery.

I spoke about my practice, and we did pillow life drawing and I spoke about anthropomorphism and psychogeography.

Spherical Wilder Man

in ceramic

I found a fluffball on the floor of Pendle Forest. I thought it was an animal at first. But it was just a pom pom from someone’s coat. Finding the pompom triggered 2 months of nourishing inspiration…

Charles Freger’s photos of the Wilder Mann, a folk tradition which has survived across Europe. Of the half-man half-beast, resurface on the occasion of ritualistic, pagan or religious festivals, celebrating the cycle of the seasons, the fat days, carnival or the eve of Easter.

Simplicity is one of the values of Quakerism. Scientists made these Wild Tsum Tsums to display in your Ancoats apartment next to your macbook and iced cherry matcha latte to remind you of the beasts.

Set of 8 ceramic Spherical Wilder Man – identified as ‘[insert names]’ – purchasable as individual or set from Paradise Works – Shop

Sequin Farm

sculpture/performance

Made during the height of flip sequin fabric, I wove a basket out of wheat that my Dad grew in Preston. I put a flip sequin pillow inside. The tracks in the sequins look like rows of fields, ploughing, scratching.

‘Sequin Farm’ exhibited as part of ‘F2LK’ – The Carlton Club, Manchester 2025

Pencil Drones

sculpture with accompanying text

‘Everyone gathered in the quantum hall.

This is where the Pencils and sticky tape are made. Drones returned from the magnetic fields with lumps of graphite as big as horses. Splinters and burns were common. They used light to heal their wounds. Holding their hands open under the red LEDs. And then moving to the blue light to heal the scars. The lettuce grows without soil, just water and light. The room is purple because of the red and blue LEDs mixing together. The fish feed the plants and the plants clean the fish. I put a different shaped rock in my shoe every morning.

We draw with pencils on paper and tape them to the wall. I drew on a rock  with a pencil. The drawing was too thick.

We snack on lettuce between silicon wafers. I place sticky tape on the tip of a pencil and peel the top layer. We fold the tape in half and stick it to the flakes on top and split them again. We repeat this 20 times. I am removing clutter between me and the divine. We dissolve the sticky tape.  I am making tiny drawings.  This is the thinnest two dimensional drawing in the world. It is the strongest drawing ever measured.  It is unparalleled. It is a wonder drawing’

Colour Analysis

writing

I am so grateful I got my personal colour analysis done in London.

I’ve been wearing unflattering colours and shades my whole life without knowing it.

This is another step towards achieving my beauty goals and harmony

I was praying that I was a summer soft. Or even a cool winter,

but alas it turns out I’m a spring bright.

My colours are clear, with a sunny property.

They are neutral-warm.

My best shades are bright blues, sharp yellows and true reds.

Vanessa Hudgens is a spring bright.

I asked my colour analyst if I could buy a roll of true red fabric to go home in.

She seemed confused but sold it to me for £20.

I draped the red fabric around my body, draped in vitality!

It reached my ankles.

As soon as I left the colour lab all I could think about was spring bright.

I looked up the street to see if I could spot any of my shades on the buildings or cars.

One of the apartment blocks was oatmeal white. I moved quickly towards it.

You can noticeably see how this shade brightens the apples of my cheeks and smoothens my under eyes.

All shadows are gone, I am glowing.

Stood in front of the abundant cream walls in 3 dimensionality. I scanned the street for my next move using my internal tonal guide.

I must avoid cloudy grey and chalk blue – these colours will drain me rather than bring me to life.

I’m heading towards the tube station in my red cloth. I’m trying to visualise the inside of the tube car.

On my way here the seats were bright blue with yellow poles.

I google the interiors of tube cars. Some have yellow poles and others have green poles. This is good. Maybe I’ll stand up and hold the pole.

I walk down the tube stairs.

These white tiles are not doing me well. I should choose a creamy white instead of a stark white to break up my heavy bases. I wait on the escalator, head down.

I get on the tube.

The poles are orange.

I close my eyes as we enter the shadow.

I remember something my colour analyst said ‘colour comes from shadow and light is the shadow of god’

I arrive at my stop.

And go up to the outside world.

The light has changed.

The sky has gone from electric blue to pastel tangerine. This is not my shade.

I need to keep moving

Each time the sun changes its position, it paints the world in a new light. I will have to start tracking the movements of the sun and moon. I am a weather detective. I am the dove being sent out from the ark.

I get to the megabus.

I read the 40 page spring bright pdf my colour analyst sent me.

Spring bright is life in vivid sparkling relief. From tropical waters to Greek islands, from tulip fields to an arctic sunrise. Allow yourself high chroma, authenticity and vibrance.

I spit pigment on a cave wall

I stain cloth with avocado skins

I choose an ultramarine iPhone 16

I am perfect as a snowflake.

It’s making sense now.

That a ladybird sits on a green leaf.

And a lotus flower grows on water.

That a robin has a red breast

And that you can feel blue.

Every cell in my body is opening up like a golden flower, releasing light.

Until the colour wheels fall from the sky.

Ceremony (Hacienda 2)

performance

Hacienda 2 was a night at Antwerp Mansion, Rusholme 2025 consisting of 60+ artists stepping out of the shadow of Manchester’s suffocating mythos and neoliberal urbanism grasping for something. We closed the event with ‘Ceremony’. The ghost of the parkas delivered the final Hacienda floorboard to Spot the Boston Dynamics Robot to take far away from us.

Re-Enactment of the Discovery of Graphene (Hacienda 2)

performance

Tanith re-enacts what she imagines the discovery of graphene was like. Holding a pencil in one hand and a roll of sellotape in the other, the two touch to the sound of a screwed up Travis Scott song, the crowd cheers.

Milton Keynes Summer Solstice Vlog

Magical Realist Vlog

One year after our first trip to Milton Keynes, myself and Preost headed back to MK with Darley Piper and Joseph Holt in toe. This time to celebrate the solstice through Zillenial-Internet inspired rituals after discovering the whole city of Milkton Keynes is a Pagan Sun Temple.

Chicken Generation

Acrylic on wood

Gudetama is an anthropomorphic egg yolk. 136 million chickens died today. Bird flu is real. It upsets me that covid didn’t spark more of let’s stop eating animals. The bird constellations are something sad drawn by a child that has bird flu or something. This is generally about everything.

48 Golden Dumbo Funkopops

Oil on wood

The rarest funkopop in the world is the golden dumbo funkopop (and the clown dumbo funkopop but it’s not as beautiful), there are only 48 on earth (and lots of fake ones). The 48 golden dumbos are separated with different collectors around the globe and they have come together again for the first time since they were born in the evergreen roman concrete caves under the earths crust where they live in peace and naturally dwell on shelf like stones and stairs.

Stigmata Drone

Oil on wood

This was made during a period of Padre Pio obsession. That if his stigmata was fake that meant he was pouring acid onto the palm of his hands for years to maintain the stigmata which is basically the same as God giving him the marks. This is my first ever drone painting which is a character that continues to live at the forefront of my mind.

Tanith Mab and Preost’s Scott Pilgrimage to Milton Keynes

Magical Realist Vlog

When myself and Preost found out about Milton Keynes’ (very short) history we immediately decided we would go there. As a born and bred Mancunian I was intrigued to go to a city with little to no cultural history. MK is a ‘New Town’ built from scratch in 1967 to deal with housing shortages in London. The year we went was 2022 when Milton Keynes officially gained City Statues. Another reason we wanted to go is because Bletchley Park is only a 5 minute train ride away from MK which is somewhere I’ve always wanted to go.

As irresistible utopians we had a Leading and we followed it. I took my Alan Turing £50 note encased in a giant apple on the National Express from Manchester and met Preost there. We stayed in MK for 4 days in a travel lodge and survived off a mix of sweet and savoury huel. Whilst there we ended up discovering a lot more synchronicity and interesting things as well embarking on our life’s mission.

Spermageddon (Airpods)

CUDDLING AIRPODS. AIRPOD AS SYMBOL OF THE INDIVIDUAL. BUT LOADS OF AIRPODS CUDDLING. SPERMAGEDDON. IN THE DESERT DRY. AIRPOD SPERMIES. GEOENGINEERING. PRAYING FOR RAIN IN THE DESERT!!!!!!! I HOPE THIS IS RELATABLE AND TRENDY FOR YOU.

Tanith spends hours painting things from Minecraft and realises at this speed of painting she’ll never be able to afford to go to Mars. She will have to just wait for the new Space travel Minecraft release. Dragons-fucking-cars-subreddit-lovechild tesla. Camomile tells you ‘Everything will be ok’. Rest In Peace Alan Turing. Baby Pandas falling whilst others are debuting. Living in captivity under the omniscient surveillance drone fidget spinner. What happens when the Minecraft bamboo flowers and there’s nothing for the Minecraft Pandas to eat?

Zillenial

Oil on wood

Coming of Age in the Information Age. The sky base, holds humanity’s consciousness. The Holy Trinity. Fear (illuminati confirmed). It exists in the dual realms (meat and cyberspace). Zoella’s Rose gold foetus is 7 months old, the baby pandas await a new member to descend onto their platform. Snorlax is collecting data, exposed and unbothered. Caroline Flack has passed on, a modern tragedy. She has been replaced. And is captured here surrounded by rose quartz- a crystal that’s inside all phones, computers and watches and the stone of universal love.
Conspiracy continues: dolphins attempt to teach the poomoji echolocation… My parents’ avatars (father on the left from Ark and mother on the right from Red Dead Redemption) escape the meatspace blissfully as I struggle to be at peace with escapism. Alan Turing the father of modern computing is ironically printed onto the knew £50 note released this year as we head towards a cashless society. An anthropomorphic Mandelbrot- I have been raised to consume, science never interested me but it should’ve. The romantic hybrid Dronkeys may not be science fiction for much longer. Are we just like the Caveman minions?
